Clean Water
At Brokenwood Acres, we prioritize the use of clean, natural water sources for irrigation. With three natural springs on our property, we harness this pristine water whenever possible. Our irrigation system includes a cistern, pre-existing on the farm before our ownership, which we have meticulously cleaned and repurposed for our farming needs. Additionally, we collect rainwater from our outbuildings, all of which feature standing seam metal roofs—eliminating screws and minimizing our environmental impact by reducing the need for roof replacements.
We consciously avoid utilizing city water for irrigation due to several concerns:
- Fluorides
- Chlorides
- Other chemicals used in municipal water treatment processes
- Potential presence of medical drugs and industrial chemicals in rivers and city water sources
